This is not "making excuses for conversion therapy". It's saying conversion therapy is bullshit, and any credible professional body already won't endorse it so this legislation isn't needed. The legislation may introduce a chilling effect on actual therapists talking to their patients however in fear of crossing a line in some sense.

well you see in the first case if you weren't born to black parents then you couldn't conceivably ever have been black, but in the second there was technically a 50/50 chance of being born a girl, and conceivably something could've gone wrong during development that gave you a girl brain, while it would never be possible to be born with a black brain

So yeah to cut to the results, the worst that's happened to me is that I currently can't access my account.

Now as to how, so apparently a person on my friends list sent me a message saying that they "accidentally" reported my account. They sent me a screenshot of the email they supposedly got with the user I should contact. I go through an elaborate "validation process" that included changing my email to what they provided and it was up to this point where it hit me that this was a scam. They had told me that I needed to pay $150 to validate my account and that they would promise to refund back, which of course I already suspected would be the case.

Of course I needed to look up this up and yup indeed it was a scam. Thankfully I didn't leave any payment information, but man do I feel so stupid.

And I just found out my account is being used for said scam.

I think Xbox just got sidelined by AI and current conditions are very unfavorable to how they've always operated.

Microsoft wants something cool to spend money on(regardless of the cost) because most of their business is boring and invisible. Especially during the 360 days Xbox did a lot for their brand and innovation. Not to mention they tried to tie it in with other stuff like their TV/Music streaming, Smartglass, Cloud technology and Kinect when the Xbox One rolled along. You could even argue that Xbox Live was the start of what has eventually become Teams.

Now ESGs/DEI are trending in corpoland so Xbox is gay and not 'cool' and AI is hot among investors but AI is already 'cool' by itself, they don't need Xbox to sell it.
An AI chatbot on Xbox is just not going to be this revolutionary thing that's going to inroduce folks to AI on a level that Co-Pilot in Word would and things like Ray Tracing and FSR just don't work well enough on the boxes they have out there today compared to the upcoming PS5 Pro / PC GPUs nor are some additional reflections or high framerates that exciting. The Xbox business has also depended a lot on third party developers from Assassins Creed to Mass Effect and Call of Duty. And third parties just haven't delivered this gen either (especially those closely aligned with MS/Xbox like EA).

Xbox was always about taking what is trending or popular and shipping it fast with tech and usability improvements. However, none of the things trending now like Asian mobile games, Fortnite, ARPGs, handheld devices, Nintendo are their strong suit or can be replicated or bought easily and shipping fast has gone out the window. They are trying with things like the HALO TV show but they can't just copy Elden Ring as easy in 2024. In the past they would expand on Resident Evil 4 with Gears of War within 2 years, make a car game with a Jeremy Clarkson cameo in 18 months, develop a half baked Wii Sports clone in less than a year or cut a last-minute deal for an exclusive Tomb Raider game just in time for the holiday season.

Nowadays i double and tripple check everything. And use a good password manager setup. I suspect a scam behind everything.
I once won a HTC Vive headset and i got a call from a woman who wanted to check/get an adresse for the delivery. Boy was i extremely reluctant talking to her...i only belived it wasn't some kind of scam when it arrived.

You can definitely construct a solid argument that Microsoft have always been a reactive player in the console wars and that the xbox/360 era represented a high point in the quality of their output that they've declined from since. Partly, imo, because they didn't understand what people wanted from their games and got distracted by non-games related nonsense (Kinect, xbox one all digital/tv integration that only worked in america and Gamepass subscriptions being famous examples).

It's under discussed how mad it was to buy activision for 80 bn or whatever then immediately close down a bunch of studios and concede the console wars, I would struggle to draw a parallel in another industry. It would be like Apple deciding not to make phones after they bought ARM or something. Strikes me as muddled corpo thinking, making it up as you go along etc
