She's made these kinds of tweets for years, it absolutely has to do with those things. This is the gender critical position, they believe this is an attack on women. Gender critical feminists don't see a man identifying as a woman as "progress" in gender equality and so something to celebrate, hence her sarcasm.

There’s something to be said about people raised on theatricality forming an unhealthy relationship with reality.

That’s what’s amazing about some of the protests. These guys announce a hunger strike and two days later complain about the institutions not feeding them. But that is praise, that's saying that being the first trans woman's football manager is worthy of note. And the purpose of the account that said it seems to be that it's this great thing that this can happen.

I think there's an important component that's generally forgotten when gender critical positions are talked about and it's the last words in TERF: radical feminist.

They aren't approaching it like the rest of us, to them "woman" has massive intrinsic value and value that men have deliberately suppressed for centuries. They have been engaged in an enterprise, feminism, that is intensely focused on this. I'm not going to argue that Joanne is some thought leader in feminism but she's always made tweets and comments like this about men and the "fascists" she has parties with are all long-time gender critical feminists. Even if she's aping their commentary it is still commentary rooted in that ideological focus on the value of "woman" or femininity.

Normally, "feminists" like ResetERA.com would not only celebrate this but participate in it themselves. But when the target is a trans woman suddenly it's beyond the pale, another of Joanne's violent crimes. This is rather the point of the gender critical feminist critique of trans women in general, that it's men trying to leverage women as a defense against their own behavior. I'm not a feminist so I didn't word it this way but they would probably go beyond my mere saying it's "praise" and start talking about things like how he's taking a job that should be a woman's. That it's both the philosophical, societal and cultural harm but also a material harm.

And this was the subject of Joanne's sarcasm. That a man being a football manager isn't news but a woman being one would be news. We're celebrating "progress" that's not changed except the language.

Was it needed to be said? Or tweeted? That's a larger issue you need to take up with humanity and I would argue is an unfair burden to place on those who believe they are speaking against their oppressors only in this specific instance. Maybe when you considering making an encampment until it gets cold or school lets out I'll listen to your tone policing of the marginalized since it comes from a place of activist success.
