Their voting pattern is because KMT was behind a lot of government services provided to the indigenous people, while DPP mainly provided lip services to them.

Most of the population of Taiwan are not indigenous people. The majority are descendants of Han settlers who migrated to Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty, after the Qing conquered the island and within the last 500 years. A minority are descendants of mostly Han migrants who moved to Taiwan after KMT's defeat in 1949. This is in contrast to the indigenous people, who were there for tens of thousands of years.
