I made it clear in my next posts that the messed up part is it having the highest user score of any PS5 game. Does that make any sense to you? If you're at all tuned in to any of the discussion around SB, then you know the game had an incel army viewing it as their rallying cry.

Then the only question is whether it tried to pander to those types or if Shift Up was completely unaware of that part of their fanbase. Considering their last game was Nikke and the accusations of gender discrimination at the studio, it's almost impossible for them to not be aware of who is buying their products.

The internet is weird. I mean, yeah it looked super obnoxious, cringe and forced to me (someone who barely knows the guy exists) but he's probably just playing into his audience to drive clicks and engagement and they probably share the passion for the announcement and loved it all, and it doesn't affect me in the slightest so let him do his thing! I lost my temper at the relentless cynicism surrounding a game for which I am extremely excited and a content creator who was integral in this announcement happening's excitement about it. I shouldn't have lost my temper but it is fucking exhausting having every single thread about things people are excited about get dragged into this cycle of misery and smugness. That's on me for being hostile about it and perpetuating that cycle. I apologize for that.

That said, can we please just let people have their space to celebrate things and not post at people and call them fake for being excited about things? What possible benefit is there to doing that? Cant believe the AA budget studio who previously did gacha games won’t sell 25 million copies.

i'd say there's a fairly consistent throughline that rlm in general has had against the corporatisation of art. but their issues go beyond their lacking of vocabulary to understand the difference between disney trying to make a buck off the tastes of modern day young people. they approach it with a both-sides hammer that wouldn't be too far off from someone unironically regurgitating 'it's actually about ethics in games journalism' or my dad unironically saying, out loud, 'well actually i think all lives matter!'
