I'm not sure that this is "doxxing" but I do agree this is incredibly creepy and privacy-invading information. When you have real names, job titles, career history etc. you also have a pretty easy path towards targeted harassment or just unwanted or unsolicited attention. This is especially true for those who are visible minorities.

Not every game developer wants to have their job define them or have it follow them outside of working hours. This kind of thing is only going to encourage more developers to stop having public social media profiles or take more steps to hide their identities online. I have almost all my LinkedIn information private and have deleted all other personally identifying accounts for this exact reason.

Yeah this shit bothers me. I'll be the first person to jump up and defend censorship. There are reasons for censorship to exist and places for it to be used. Racism, Homophobia, Transphobia, Misogyny etc. These are things that should be censored.

What's happening to language on Youtube and other social media sites however is just outright dystopian. Unalived, PDF, sewer slide. We should NOT be having to dance around serious topics to please the corporate overlords. We are neutering the gravity of these topics by having to talk in fucking baby talk just to keep a bunch of suits happy. It is beyond ridiculous.

Microsoft, Sony (and Nvidia) fucked up by not having enough supply. So most gamers went back to playing their old games or expanding their libraries as they gave up waiting for new systems or GPUs. Third parties added fuel to the fire by sticking to PS4 longer because not enough new consoles were out there and they could do Switch/PS4 releases. Valve must've noticed this trend and released the Steamdeck, giving PS4 era games another boost.

Let's face it, a whole bunch of the 'best' current gen games like Resident Evil 4: Remake and Elden Ring are playable on PS4 (Pro).

It also doesn't help that the PS4/Switch are still good enough for the most part. There isn't alot of games out there that really show off why you need a PS5.

And how saying things like "Sewer Slide" in relation to real events only hurts the perception of them.

Honestly, hearing dumb words like "Un-alive" really hurts a video. It's somehow worse than kids cartoons going "I will destroy you" instead of "I will kill you". At least "destroying" someone can be a legitimate threat.
It's the same thing with people that censor themselves on Reddit. Nobody is going to ban you for saying "kill" or "shot" or "rape". If anything, you'll just be mocked.

I fundamentally disagree with this.

Globalisation has allowed a steady supply of cheap goods into advanced economies and those advanced economies have continued to adapt and add more highly skilled jobs over time. Yes, it has caused temporary pain to specialised workers, but over time, more jobs and higher paying jobs have been created to more than make up for the shortfall.

For example, I can buy a pair of boots made in China for $50 or I can buy a pair of boots made in Australia for $450. I know the Australian ones are likely better quality and will last longer, but the Chinese ones will suffice for my needs and allow me to buy multiple pairs of boots for different purposes as my needs change. How much would a basic t-shirt cost without access to cheap and skilled textile manufacturing labour in Bangladesh?

Without globalisation, much more of my income would be taken up by things like basic clothing and housing, food and technology would be far more expensive and my choice would be severely restricted.

The morality of globalisation and the willingness of companies and governments to exploit people in third world countries is another debate, but in a purely economic sense, globalisation has been a massive positive to everyone.

I had a long drive and literally nothing better to do so apropos of nothing youtube led me to a debate between Destiny and Metokur from shortly after Trump was elected

Trump got a lot of middle america rust belt vote based on promises that he would bring back manufacturing jobs to the US through tariffs, creating incentives for companies to build plants in the US again

and Destiny said literally everything you said above, about how we should let countries do whatever they're best at to benefit everyone, it's retarded to artificially punish one to let another catch up when they're not equipped for it, not to mention those kinds of jobs can't pay the cost of living in the US anymore while still being competitive globally

his weird off the cuff example was if you have two kids, one is good at making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and the other is good at pouring milk, why would you punish one kid just to let the other catch up in their abilities at the other job when they already had their own specialization and role they could fill



...then later in the discussion, Destiny went all in ranting about how important affirmative action is, how you can't just hire "the most qualified candidate for the job," you have to insert pressures to give underprivileged groups like women and minorities a chance to allow those groups upward mobility...
