Square is a company where engine issues are not new... even those are their own internal engines.

Eh there's a bunch of reasons to go with an engine upgrade. UE4 is aging and supporting modern stuff might rely on using backported technology that is jank. It's not unreasonable to imagine an upgrade makes their life easier than a lesser UE version, especially if they won't be supporting PS4. 

Also none of that has to do with their pipeline. Source control wouldn't change and submits/builds would be done the same way, so he's talking out of his ass there
