I watch quite a few trans creators on YouTube (majority of which aren't even gaming channels) and I think it affects my algorithm in a negative way.

I searched for "Ghost of Yotei" because I wanted to rewatch the trailer on my TV, and the first 8 out of 10 results were all videos about how it is "woke" or even one saying that the protagonist is "trans". I had to keep scrolling just to find the actual freaking trailer. And even worse, because it is search results, I cannot click "don't recommend" on these. This type of content very rarely if ever appears in my general recommended section.

God I fucking hate this platform right now. "Oh, seems like you're trans? Here let us bombard you with content from people who despise your existence". YouTube are doing so much damage to the culture war.

Yuji Hori probably didn't expect this to go viral, but at the same time, calling the US a "ridiculous country" and saying "an evil disguised as good" in regards to age ratings aren't really things you should be discussing at a game show - even one that is only in Japan. And I mentioned this before, but this does zero favors for the game itself. The chuds still won't be buying it because it's censored, and now you'll have other people that will be hesitant to because it's painted like an inferior product by it's own creator.

It's not like the censorship wasn't already being discussed, but Hori shining a light on it and how he went about it is going to make it impossible to avoid - and for a highly anticipated remake of all things. If Hori knew the traction this would gain, I doubt he would have still said it. Second, being a public figure is not some scientific barrier from people mispronouncing your name on accident. Same with having "public conversations" (where in the public did these conversations take place, exactly? Was every American present?)

Again, her own stans- people who are extremely excited for her and will do the same browbeating towards depressed Arabs-Americans as the next Democrat right now- will sometimes mispronounce her name on accident online and on television still. It happens.

What is important is to engage with the context around that mispronunciation to determine if you're dealing with ignorance or maliciousness, especially if you're dealing with a minority where the name "Kamala" truly is pronounced differently within their culture (because we believe in intersectionality, do we not?) But trying to weaponize this as a wholesale dog whistle in every instance, especially to reroute criticism away from Kamala's electoral history and platform, is pure deflective liberalism. It's a pure outrage tactic and, at the very least, it's not going to work on me.

So yes, what you're engaging in is clown behavior. This is the equivalent of wearing a dashiki and kneeling in the wake of George Floyd's murder. Utterly useless posturing.

The fact that a gesture might mean something to someone out there doesn't necessarily imbue that gesture with any objective value that inhibits criticism.
