Well, presumably, I think when people say staff here they just mean the few other Administrators (sans Nep essentially, since a part of the conflict, so would be biased), rather than just the Mods. Were everything set up in a sane way the Administrators would have some form of mechanism to do anything here (even the bare minimum of highly critical statements about what happened, mention they are investigating or trying to get something to happen, idk, anything except radio silence) because everyone should have learned the lesson from the previous place that letting one person have unchecked control with no mechanism to deal with anything bad is a bad idea since that's what made this place happen.

Also had no idea that the General Manager spot is paid unlike the rest of the staff? That kind of makes this even more severe to me tbh.

The only reason I follow this thread and contribute to it at all is because I really like Era and want it to be the best it can be, but it's hard to find the motivation to do that after this. I still love Era and the community, but it feels like Era is good in spite of how it's run, more so than because of how it's run

I wish the manager had just replied at the time rather than let this fester for a week. I'm not saying he should step down because of this, but tbh, I think a long break from posting publicly would be wise at least, because I think a lot of us are growing bored of his antagonising and often hostile tone, and it sets a bad example of how discussion should take place here. Whenever I see a post like that it just makes me want to bail on the thread rather than bother to engage any further.

Even before this, the discussion in here was about posters not really getting any clarification on bans, but a good page of well articulated discussion and explanation was just rudely and patronisingly shut down by the GM without any of the issues being addressed.

Time and time again we get an emotive and clumsy message from the GM, which is then followed up a million times better by another mod who has presumably been sent to clean up the mess.

I just think we need to go back to basics. Firstly, please just stop messing around and write the rules up on the TOS page and update as is necessary. There is no benefit at all to not doing this, it's borderline ridiculous that as a group you've not been able to just do this. If you have the time to post thousands of times, you surely can carve out some time to update the TOS. The previous GM managed to get a TOS page up and running, and that was done while also trying to get everyone over from the last place. It's been 7 years now, it should be possible to get a TOS page that is up to date.

Secondly, if mods are to post as regular users, then they should be held to a higher standard than normal posters. If they're allowed to post stuff that would get anyone else permed then it is clear that they're not just like regular posters, so if that is to be the case, then they should police their tone, more so when discussing serious topics. If someone wants to scream and yell abuse at other posters they disagree with, then they can do that elsewhere online. Era should set a better example than that, especially from the top.

Plus I love how other mods are a million times better. Oh? The c-word rule being a blanket ban even if it's a movie quote AND having the banner "misogynistic rhetoric" does not feel right. Like it's a pretty nasty ban banner to have on your record and it's not accurate, the posters quoting a movie are not being misogynistic whatsoever... It's VERY misleading as to the nature of the infraction and I sure don't feel "safer" as a woman with this kind of policy.

I would prefer if that context were not moderable at all personally, but if it really needs to be, could we maybe adjust this to warning with the banner "inappropriate language" or something like that?
