If you make a thread that is pointlessly inflammatory or deceptive then it will be locked and you will be actioned accordingly. Any attempts to circumvent the rules will be met the same way.
The infractions for breaking the rules will be as follows: on a first offense you will be barred from the threads marked "Politics" for a week. On a second offense you will be barred from the threads marked "Politics" for a month. On a third offense you will be barred from the threads marked "Politics" until the end of the election season.

I don't know what the solution is. This is just an emotional rant about where my head is at right now.

I'm a white straight cis male. I am a Democrat and a progressive and have tried to be an ally to the best of my ability.

I live in bumfuck rural NC and don't make much money. I live with my mom at 44 years old and only get to see my kids a few times a year because my ex-wife cheated on me and left me. My lawyers couldn't make anything happen for me regarding primary custody of my kids because "I'm a man and they aren't being outright abused so custody arrangements favor the mother by default". I have no realistic prospects to ever make significantly more money or own property until my mother dies. I deal with severe depression, hyper-anxiety, and PTSD. I am also incredibly lonely and do not anticipate ever being in a position to date again.

I'd love to know what my privilege is because I gotta be honest I haven't seen it. My entire life has been a cascading moebius strip of tragedy and failure. And I come to places like Era to get away from it all, and get confronted with posts that tell me I'm the problem, I'm the reason that everything sucks and that my existence causes untold misery. Fuck's sake I wore a dark red t-shirt today because I just grabbed a clean shirt after I got out of the shower and people at work asked me if I was trying to make some kind of statement.

So right now, in the immediate aftermath of this shitshow of an election, and in the midst of everyone scrambling to find the blame for that orange shitstain getting into the White House again, my immediate emotional reaction is that I'm fucking DONE. The county I live in went 70% red, so my vote counted for fuck all. I'm choosing to just try to take care of myself as best I can before I drop dead instead of trying to choose between getting hated by people on the right for virulently disagreeing with their racist and hateful rhetoric or hated by the people on the left for being part of a demographic that has unfortunately exerted their power and privilege for evil over the course of history.

So if all that shit reads as privileged, I guess I'm privileged, but either way, I think I'm just done engaging with the political process. I want nothing to do with the right, and I increasingly feel that the left wants nothing to do with me. Whether I die because some political nutjob decides to round me up and shoot me or I die young, alone, and broke in the fucking woods due to health issues is kind of arbitrary at this point.

Get back to the economy, national security, crime, foreign policy. That’s what men care about. It’s not that hard. We just want to make more money than we did last year and feel confident that our families are safe. That’s it. 

As a democrat I just want my party to stand for something other than blaming white men for everything. I luckily live a fairly comfortable life, but a whole lot of us don’t.
