an actor is hired to play a role. they don't have to be the race or body size or whatever it is to actually play that character. they're supposed to pretend, that's kinda the whole point right?

Would recommend doing your own research too, I'm just one person and I'm a cis woman at that, so I don't have the whole picture. And it's easy for someone on the outside to walk in and go "I don't see what the big deal is," but you gotta remember that trans people are having these fights daily, these conversations daily. It's exhausting to have to justify your own humanity all the time. Good on you for wanting to know more, if this really is a good faith comment, but do keep that in mind.

All things are not equal. Representation matters and under-representation exists and if you are creating a character that fits into an under-represented (in movies/tv certainly) demographic, it'd be nice to give that role to someone who actually comes from that group.
