One thing I don't understand is that Canada joining the US would make the pathways to winning the presidency is extremely difficult for the GOP. Canada would be one the largest states in terms of population and it would rob electoral votes from every state with the smallest of the states dropping the most. Politics in Canada more aligns with the democratic party and even goes further left. So is this just posturing and just bullying for the sake of it? The math gets even more unfavorable to the GOP if the provinces in Canada turn into US states. The senate permanently turned blue at that point.

For the record, my argument has always been to simply not vote for Trump, and that those that did vote for Trump are the ultimate issue. All I'm doing is merely explaining why some people abstained in the vague hopes that maybe folks here would understand and go on to further recognize the flaws in their own politics instead, and to shed this hubris and ego that insists only people here who inevitably vote Democrat are the smartest and most moral people on Earth, because if for nothing else you cannot engage in work to free the masses if you constantly dehumanize them and think you're above them. It's counterintuitive.

I know I'm failing at that because I don't fundamentally think anyone here is interested in learning and growing versus being reactionary, judgemental, and angry, which is understandable considering everything that Trump and Elon are doing and the general niche space we've curated over the years. But it means that there really is no point in me wading into threads like this and talking. I'm not that oblivious; I can read a room.

I am also not nihilistic. I fundamentally believe in a general goodness of humanity, even with everything going on right now, and I believe that positive change towards liberation is possible. I was telling people to go out and organize in their communities before the Canadians made it cool because I sincerely believe in the power of mass movement, organization, self-sufficiency, and altruism towards one's fellow man. You may dislike me but at least get my politics and philosophies right.

Ultimately I predicted this was coming because, well, math and history. Everyone else ignored the warning signs in favor of just hoping and praying that people would do what they demanded while calling them stupid and evil for essentially rebelling at their own oppression. You can be mad at me, but you can't say I was wrong.

So like, are we going to continue whining about nonvoters until the midterms where we'll then play like we're interested in getting them to vote, or are we going to sincerely acknowledge and deal with the conditions that underpin oppression in America? I'm confident in which one most people would pick, but I'd like my optimism proven right.

A little bit of background, if you will. I went to school for years to lift myself out of poverty and get myself into a modest social service career. Spent the better part of the next four years actively working the front line of the opioid epidemic. Changed fields because I couldn't stomach both the physical and mental strain that line of work takes on you. Moved onto youth focused care to help set one of the populations at highest risk for developing addictions up for success - even though that too is an uphill battle.

I literally had to undergo surgery last fall because of the physical toll that years of having to administer first aid has taken on me.

Don't need to be smugly told by the moderator of a gaming enthusiast forum that I don't do anything for other people - especially after watching months of "well what am I supposed to do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" posts by Americans coming into threads about Mexico/Greenland/Canada being militarily acted upon trying to soothe their conscience.

Because let's face it, if someone can't even be trusted to put in the effort to vote for or push progressive politicians or policies, how much effort are they willing to expend actually organizing beyond that?

After all, the deluge of "what do you want me to do about it?" posts are pretty revealing as just how much (or little).

I looked at the demographics and most of the foreign origins are Russia, Sweden or Estonia, so all white. And "aren't that white anymore" means still at least 90% white. Non-whites might be ~5% of the population in some of the major cities. One Helsinki metro area city looks like it might be near 10% if you add up all the Muslims, Indians and Chinese.

edit: The similarly sized Republic of the Congo and Central African Republic both look to be 99+% African. Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan are both about 95+% Turkic. (Both are ~3-5% Russian.) Laos questionably claims not a single person from Europe (or anywhere outside Southeast Asia) in its population. (There were 13 French people in 1985.)
