This is me as well, I would never have known I was trans if it wasn't for friends I met online, I wouldn't have known I was a lesbian if it wasn't for this site. Wikipedia while not perfect has been a massive net positive and has opened up so many people to information they would never have had. I wouldn't know nearly as much about LGBTQ+ news and news around the world if I had to rely on stuff like the BBC and the UK newspapers etc. For all the flaws of major social media, it's also been a massive source for LGBTQ+ people to protest against hatred, misinformation and to organize against groups like the UK Government. sites like GoFundMe have been amazing to help people in need or allow indie projects a chance to exist.

And the thing is, right wringers and people in power are aware of this, it's why they want Wikipedia gone, it's why they've making social media worse and worse and using their algorithms to push their hate rhetoric onto people.

This was 2019, his high femme womanhood discovery was a couple years later during the pandemic.

In case it's not clear, yes, I'm accusing him of deleting those posts to further fabricate his current forum identity.

Hey,

I'm not really sure how to ask this question and am just putting this into the void, but maybe other folks have found themselves in a similar situation and can provide some guidance. If not, that's totally cool.

So, my wife and I (Canadian, in case that's important) are in our early 30s, "own" our own house (about 19 years left on our mortgage), have two dogs (no kids), live near our parents, have a tight group of friends, and both work fairly close to where we live and at the same place (not in the same office, but for the same "company"). We both have permanent, full-time positions that pay fairly well, we get three weeks off a year, have additional time off for things like appointments, have great benefits, etc. We own our car (paid off), and do fairly well for ourselves. As in, we have money to go out, buy things, go on trips once in a while (Portugal in October!), etc.

All this to say, on paper, we have a pretty fantastic life and I'm fully aware of that. We've also both had great lives up until now - as in we both grew up in loving households, were able to go to post-secondary school, all of that jazz. In a word, we've led quite privileged lives and I can fully recognize that. The reason I say this is because sometimes I wonder if this is part of the reason we find ourselves where we are now.

What do I mean? I mean that we find ourselves to be in a bit of a rut and can't really figure out why. Not in our relationship, we love each other very much and want to grow old together - there's no problems there at all. Our jobs are also great on paper and we like who we work with. The rut is just...lately we just feel this desire to quit our jobs and run away together.

At one point, we both enjoyed our jobs enough. As in, we had no problems going to work and even enjoyed it, but always very much lived a "work to live" lifestyle. Maybe it's just a "we've been doing this (living together, working here, etc.) for about a decade now" thing, and it's no longer fresh? I'm not sure. Neither of us are very career-oriented (it's a means to an end, we have no emotional attachment to our work, no desire to climb the ladder (but we both have done this naturally anyway)).

Lately, we just feel like...."is this it? Is this what life is for the next 30 years until we retire?"

To address the elephant in the room, we've definitely had the "kids" conversation, but we're both eternally on the fence (as we are with many things in our life). We recently bought the book "The Baby Decision" but haven't actually picked it up yet, but have been thinking more about it. The problem is, we're not 100% sure, and I'm not 100% sure that it would be the best thing or solve this "issue" either. Sometimes we both feel (despite having no kids) that we have no time and are always reacting to things. As in, wake up, go to work, come home, enjoy dinner, then there's a couple hours in the day to do some chores and/or watch a TV show or two, and then it's bed time (need those 8 hours!) and rinse and repeat. On weekends we see friends and family (not EVERY weekend), go on dates, and love our free time - but then on Monday the "rut" vibes return. When we go on vacation we are incredibly happy (as everyone is, I realize) but the weeks following are incredibly, incredibly difficult.

Part of me wonders if this is some kind of leftover from the pandemic. As in, for the first 6 months or so of the pandemic (when both of our jobs were VERY light, social commitments disappeared) we were living our best life. I realize that sounds weird, but we're both home bodies, and just...basked in the bliss of no obligations. We were very fortunate to keep our jobs, get to work from home and all of that, and I have this very distinct memory of thinking "this is peak and will never happen again", and sometimes I wonder if since then...we just haven't been able to bring ourselves back from that to return to normal life. We just always feel tired, like there's no time to start things, there's always something to clean or pay for, always something to take care of, always a friend asking if we want to go do that thing (which is great, but can be a lot), etc..

On that note, I will say that since the pandemic we've partaken in a fair bit of the ganja. Not that we've been getting high before work or at every hour of the day, but what before the pandemic was a "once every few weekends" thing, since the pandemic it's become a "most evenings we'll split a 0.5g pre-roll" type thing. I fully realize that this has likely impacted our mood over time, and we have taken significant breaks here and there (and have felt better (not perfect) when we do), but we also often find ourselves turning to it as a means of shutting our brains off based on how we've been feeling about work and stuff, things going on in the world and at our jobs (our "company" is not doing great financially right now, the vibes around the offices are grim, etc.). It's a catch 22. We know quitting that would be good, but we also feel like it can help us enjoy an evening without overthinking about everything.

I guess...the point of this thread is to ask...is this fairly normal? Have other folks dealt with this, and if so, have you made a change that addressed it? Like I said above, on paper we have an incredible life. So often I'll find myself feeling guilty, or like I'm just not grateful enough for what we have - and that could very well be true. I've tried the gratitude journal thing, but it doesn't really help. Part of the reason I brought up our life and upbringing above is because some folks I've talked about this with have said "maybe you just need to gain some perspective - you've had it pretty good and maybe you need to see what you haven't had to struggle with to enjoy what you have more" - and that could very well be true. But...I also don't want to give up all we have just to have a more difficult lifestyle to gain perspective and ultimately regret losing what we have now, you know? That just seems...dumb. And I don't think anyone who HAS struggled would recommend that either, I think they would say "dude...just be happy and stop whining" XD

I also wonder if part of this is because we never really left "home". We still live in the city we grew up in (which isn't a rural town or anything, or a big city - it's kind of an in between), not far from our parents, we both work where my mom worked all of her working life (it's not a bad place to work by any means - it's great - it's just....well-trodden ground?) and sometimes I wonder if it's just that - that we never left and figured it out on our own. But again...it seems silly to give up a support system and the advantages we've had just because...

So yeah. I suppose we just feel a bit "stuck". I realize how this could sound to many folks - like a priveleged silver spoon baby whining about having everything, but I will also say that our feelings are quite real right now (i.e. we're not doing so well emotionally) and I just don't know what to do. We've both kind of 'fallen into" our careers - as in I have a Bachelor of Arts and she has a Diploma in Office Administration (and in Culinary Management), so it's not as though we have a hidden skill that's employable that we could go act on. I once dreamed of being a famous musician, but that's faded and wasn't never a realistic prospect anyway. She once dreamed of being a professional chef, but after culinary school she decided that it wasn't the lifestyle she wanted (but yes, I am incredibly lucky in that my wife loves cooking and baking and she's incredibly good at both). Sometimes we dream about opening a little food shop, but we know nothing about business and it seems quite scary to risk all we have to try that - especially in these times...

Sorry, this is a mega rant and I've probably said way too much. Maybe part of this is me treating this like a journal where I'm writing down everything I'm feeling to look at it at a glance...

(I should add, we've both tried therapy before - for different, personal things - but right now we're considering going to see someone together to address these feelings as a couple...)

The entire "rant" is his complaining how entirely normal his life is but he thinks is some kind of super privileged life because neither of them seem to have taken any stupid risk. You shouldn't stop complaining because you have it "good", you should stop complaining because what is there to complain about being normal? If you want to fuck up your life to be less "boring" just do it and enjoy the excitement that comes from it!

edit: My main comment wanted to be about how he thinks they're sheltered because they never left "home" when he's sheltered because he doesn't realize how this is the most common thing for the vast majority of the population. Even in America/Canada where it happens less than everywhere else. (And is almost entirely a function of how geographically large the two countries are.)
