Regarding this, I recall from previous threads that unless a post is way outside the rules (posting porn, gore, etc) posts aren't actioned unless reported. Is this true? As a user it seems like it as you'll see mods interact in threads with posts from others that eventually lead to bans. Can mods report posts? Do they? Just thinking about the posts I'll see with the vibe of "I can't believe the mods allow this!" and the offending post is never reported. Generally it should be on users to report stuff but if a mod happens by something I'm wondering if they're able to act on it without a report.

So if there's a dog whistle we'll tag the mods who will best be able to determine if it's what we think it is or if it's a wrestling thread and we need context we'll tag the mods who know from wrestling and so on and so forth.

Lemme put it this way, if I'm scrolling through a thread on gaming side and see a bunch of people being blatant warriors, using blatant warrior language, I'll probably just action them to get the thread back on track before it goes off the rails and any hope for decent discussion dies, but I might not notice something like an anti-LGBTQ+ dog whistle. I've done this long enough that I can tell when a post might be something, so in this case I'd just report it and tag the relevant staff members so they can have a look and we can figure out what to do with it.

That's why certain things will take longer to be actioned than others. We're not all in some Manhattan office building looking at reports from 9-5, we have day jobs and sometimes it'll take a bit for someone to be available.

Realistically I think all deepfakes should just be banned and making any, consensual or not, shouldn't be allowed. The benefits of the technology are just so low compared to the potential for abuse and even letting consensual deep fakes be legal makes it easier for nonconsensual ones to be made and spread. That would also allow the target to be painted on the people spreading the tech to make deep fakes itself rather than the content made using it, which would probably help curb some of these free speech abuse issues since you'd cut down on cases drastically just by making it way harder for people to even try to make them in the first place. From there just use existing laws about extortion/defamation/harassment etc to handle those cases
