I remember one time I ended things with someone because the relationship was exclusively on her terms. If I wanted to see her, I had to ride the fucking Metra out to the Chicago suburbs. She wouldn't drive into the city to see me. If I wanted to get dinner, it had to be on a night she wanted to get dinner (which, yes, meant I would need to get a Metra ticket day of and ride the train an hour out to her suburb and an hour back after dinner). If she came into the city, it was for a band she wanted to see and I could either come along or stay home, or because she wanted to go to a museum or a punk club or whatever. Activities were always on her time and the few times she actually agreed to a date I planned, she would always have some believable (but eventually sus) reason to cancel pop up at the last second.

Eventually it just became clear that she didn't value the relationship all that much and was fine with spending time with me as long as she didn't have to put any excess effort in on her part, but never lifted a finger to meet me on my side. So after a month or two of that, I let it drop. I was young and stupid and I was DEEPLY invested in her but it took me too long to realize she just wasn't invested the same way in me. Oh well.

The reality is Trump has lived an incredibly unhealthy life and it's a contest between that, and him being enmeshed in a massive machine designed to keep the president alive at any cost.

He could be around for some time to come, but in a nearly disabled state. A typical president might step down if it got to that point, for national security reasons if nothing else. But Trump is too valuable as a nearly mindless puppet occupying the seat.
