Just because 49% of Democrats agree with the paraphrased statement by Nick Fuentes doesn't make them groypers. You can agree with a stance without thinking a person's other views are also accurate or in line with your own.

I'll counter this with a real life example to illustrate why public tacit agreement obfuscates motivation and leads to normalization:

Not too long ago, Newsome had Kirk on his podcast, in which the conversation of trans athletes came up. Newsome, who helped pass legislation ensuring rights/protections for those in the LGBTQIA community, not only offered little pushback against Kirk's opposition to trans athletes, but even agreed with him on grounds of "fairness". To anyone listening to Newsome unaware of the Kirk, this presented Kirk's stances with an air of reasonability rather than hate, and in turn brought into question Newsome's sincerity concerning his own convictions.

Do you see why, if you're both vehemently opposed to white supremacists and antisemitism, any agreement with Tucker leads to normalization?

 

This is the thing people don't seem to get anymore: the why of the position absolutely matters because when we stand next to these people and nod as they talk we send a message that this person is worth listening to.

I remember back in 2009 I was on a holiday with a friend and their family at their family caravan.

The parents made cheeseburgers for dinner. I asked if they had ketchup.

They didn't. No big deal, didn't make a fuss about it, I ate and enjoyed the burgers anyway.

But apparently the fact I asked was absolute heresy. Completely disgusting and rude behaviour. They literally never forgave me, even the parents. Friendship over.

I wish there was more to it than that, but that's genuinely it. They didn't tell me they were pissed right away, but when they drove me home my friend told me to never contact them again, and when I asked what the hell is happening, he said I should never have asked for ketchup.

I remember one time, one of my very close friends skipped my birthday party and then told me "if you knew why, you'd understand", and then refused to elaborate when I asked them to tell me why.

Like at that point it's just clear you don't give a shit about salvaging the relationship.
