Off topic a bit after having reading through the first 7 pages last night and seeing this is still going and people are being semantic asses:

I have started viewing online spaces as rooms that I would walk into and interact with people in there. All I can say about some of you on this forum is if I walked into this room and saw how you were treating someone who is trying to bring up and discuss a topic I would just leave the room ( or maybe even intervene because some of the hostility would warrant a third party to stop how awful some of you treated OP) A lot of this thread is embarrassing and to think we call this a community. It's on par for online discourse but y'all are the people in the corner who are I guess technically right and maybe y'all do need to hold the line but man, the lack of social skills and hostility taking place in here towards OP. Think of how you are treating another human being who brought up a topic of discussion, it's just embarrassing and feels incredibly immature. To think this forum champions inclusion and then treats people like this. I'm a bit of a lurker but have been around for a bit. I don't know any of you well and it's obvious there are people who have cliques here but as a lurker and someone who is part of this community at the fringes I am really disheartened by what I have seen here. Do better and be better Era. My goodness.

Couple of things to get out of the way immediately: 

I'm going to therapy (same therapist I've seen on/off for the past several years)
I am experiencing a prolonged depressive episode (just under 2 months and counting)
I am feeling better day by day but progress is slow and uneven
I've had an especially hard 2026 with job loss (6.5 months and counting), personal health issues, family health issues, partner health issues, re-activated unprocessed trauma, etc. I feel stretched very very thin some days
I'm considering a career change from graphic design to cybersecurity
I hate where I live (Phoenix, AZ) and have been trying to get things together to leave for several years; for one reason or another it's always been pushed back
I'll be 43 in November, divorced 3 years ago, girlfriend lives with me
I am not having thoughts/ideations of ending my life
However, while "lack of interest in usual hobbies and activities" is one of the clearest symptoms of depression, I have this feeling that I'm actually just starting to lose interest in them altogether. When I've had depressive episodes in the past, there was always this kind of "I want to want to do these things" in the back of my mind, even if engaging in them wasn't really working in the moment.

In fact, gaming, my primary hobby, has historically been the one thing that I turned to in times of depression or struggle. It was how I was spending the majority of my down time for the first 4-5 months of my unemployment. But now there isn't even that "I want to want" feeling in my mind. I'm not completely done with gaming as a hobby, I still manage to play something here and there, but overall I just find myself massively less interested and engaged with it as I used to be. I don't visit this forum nearly as often, I barely listen to gaming podcasts right now, my social feed still comprises a lot of gaming content and I just don't care about it, even find myself kind of actively bored with it.

It's largely the same with books, movies, TV, and music. There's very little I feel like actively engaging with right now. I listen to a lot of white noise, ambient music, and/or mental health podcasts during the day as I work on finding a job. Sometimes I'll listen to a favorite band of mine for a few songs but inevitably it just starts to grate on me. I only have the stomach for reality dating shows or British Bake Off because they don't demand a lot of my brain power to enjoy. If I'm reading something it's related to mental health/trauma in some way and I have to pace myself on those because it can become overwhelming and really fuck my day up. Right now I've been spending time either working on a puzzle with my girlfriend, playing sudoku, or doing some freehand drawing/coloring artwork just to give myself something physical and/or creative to do. I'm thinking of getting a book of nonograms for similar reasons.

I can't stand most of the art on my wall; most of the decor I have around the house. I've been taking a lot of it down, putting it away, or selling it off. I know how this might sound but again I assure you I'm not struggling with thoughts of taking my life. I am just very...tired and disillusioned with the life I've been trying to have so far. If I could scrap everything except my computers, my dog, and my girlfriend, and take off somewhere new tomorrow I'd leap at the chance. So much of what I own is just cruft from past relationships, past versions of myself, that I'd just as soon not look at or have in my possession anymore.

For her part my girlfriend has been extraordinarily compassionate, understanding, and supportive. She's the best partner I've ever had.

It feels like I've hit a point where I'm ready to became a radically different version of myself at the exact same time that I am the least equipped to make it happen. Looking to see if anyone else has gone through this kind of shift/transformation in their life and what their experience was like.

Democrats aren't running on Trump slogans and policies. You overestimate how left-leaning the vast majority of democrat voters are. They're center-left and will not jump onboard every insane leftist position that DSA-types try to drive a wedge with.  
 
It's Trump's insane economic policies, warmongering and obsession with slapping his name on everything to have a legacy that are pissing off everyone except diehard MAGAs who already think Joe Biden is a communist. If the democrat nominee in 2028 runs on tearing down everything this admin has done, it's an easy ticket to the white house.
