i like how this thread/topic on gaming side kinda forces us to reckon with an industry that's been far too comfortable demonizing/villifying (or on the other end of the spectrum, existing solely to enable white saviors) middle eastern folks. no doubt cinema and other mediums have done this for a long time as well, and 9/11 absolutely heightened this. but again, this one is an industry often rooted in cateting to white male power fantasy, and its only come so far since gamergate. virulent islamaphobia, fostered by parts of the FPS and other crowds, rearing its head in this moment is about as surprising as the cowardice shown by so much silence from the industry as a whole.

It bombed but the biggest culprit was airing right next to Kenobi and getting the wind completely taken out of its sails. What was supposed to be a showing of two D+ pillars sharing the platform together instead became a showing of one cannibalizing the fuck out of the other. And there's a decent argument that the worse show won of the two.

Kamala Khan is the biggest Marvel superhero to debut in the last 10 years and yet every push to make her big has been sabotaged to fuck. Big starring role in an Avengers video game only for it to be treated like a giant poison pill between a broken launch and NuHuman junk. Her big debut in the MCU with a new actress that embodies her in every way and it gets overrun by Star Wars noise which turn screws up her movie debut in Marvels. Just one fucking misstep after another.

This is the reason why people started to dislike the character.

Absolutely. 

As I've said, the TV show is decent and surprisingly heartfelt and deals with interesting themes for Marvel slop. The actress is great and the character is novel enough to be interesting.

HOWEVER, is there's one thing that nerds hate it's being told they should love something.

That's the story here. Instead of letting the character find her feet and build popularity in an organic way, Disney have forced things down people's throats in order to sell the direction they plotted out for the aimless phase 4 and 5 drivel.

It’s why they stick boring local news between popular shows and late night talk shows, back when people watched those.
