I just realised something seeing all the Fallout sales boost news based on the TV show's popularity.

Square's intention with the FF movie and the Compilation of FFVII, and to a lesser extent with XIII (no movie) and XV (video animated movie) was to create a synergy feedback loop between movies and games that would increase sales for both.

Fallout has just done what they have always tried to do, while Rebirth's sales underperform.

If they commissioned a Final Fantasy live action show in a similar vein to Fallout and The Last of Us (did game sales get a boost?), could that potentially boost FF game sales and make FF the behemoth Square need it to be?

It requires that the film/miniseries/tv show to be extremely good or hyper popular enough to create that synergy. I don’t remember any Final Fantasy stuff from other media being even considered good. I love FFVII, but is probably impossible to adapt to any other medium without being an anime kitsch, like Advent Children proved. Nier has anime and stage plays, Dragon Quest had a popular anime/manga and a Anime film, FF has a lot failed films and anime.

The whole reason why they consider FFXVI a success in expanding the franchise is also because is more grounded, so is probably easier to adapt if the opportunity arises.

I think in general that modern social media algorithms lead people toward extremism, Tik Tok included. If Tik Tok is specifically goosing people toward one end or another I do not know. What I'm more concerned about is disinfo campaigns like Russia performed in the 2016 election, but this time the platform is owned by an opposing state. And I'd put China in the opposing state group considering it's support if Russia after Russians invasion of Ukraine, as well as the tensions over a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan.
