The thing is that the trans struggle was going in the right direction a decade ago. Yes, the original logic was it was demonstrating you wouldn't be swayed by passions and provide wise rational advice and bureaucracy. (edit: The lack of heirs was a big one because this was the basis for political power, family.) Followed by a long history of them mostly scheming for personal gain. But we probably shouldn't critique courts for doing unproductive things well after they demonstrated obvious flaws because that's a court itself. One should rationally question the notion of divine right and that God is putting them on the throne when you keep having to dethrone or avoid members of the lineage for being unfit to rule.

But, to be fair, they didn't exactly have a basis for thinking any alternative would work. Even today most people doubt the alternatives. Look at Era where they constantly demand the elimination of democracy for The Right Side of History's divine rule.
